St. Joseph's Hill

The Place

Right in the backdrop of the Town of Los Gatos, St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve is a quick and easy escape from urban life. We will be adding a mile or so to the four miles of sometimes steep trails that make up the 268-acre preserve. We will hike through grassland, chaparral and oak woodland as we make our way up. The trail is exposed to wind and sun, especially at the top so dress in layers and bring sunscreen.

Getting There

DIRECTIONS:  From San Jose take Hwy 17 South exit Los Gatos East. Turn right onto Los Gatos Blvd. Los Gatos Blvd becomes Main Street. We will meet at the Los Gatos Comm. Center at 208 E. Main Street.

Drive time is 15 minutes Parking Free Dogs Allowed on Leash

Walking the Walk

(Level 3 - Miles: 6 - Elevation ~653')  We will start from the parking lot on Miles Ave. and head down the Los Gatos Creek Trail. This will bring us to Flume Trail, then Jones Trail to Novitiate Trail. We will have our meeting at the summit then make our way down the Manzanita Trail for a brief recap of the Novitiate then continue down the portion of Jones Trail that we missed. This will lead us to the reservoir and onto Alma Bridge Road for a few yards until it connects us back to the Los Gatos Creek and another 2 miles back to the cars.
