Portola Redwoods State Park
Peters Creek Loop
July 13, 2013

Trail Junction

The Place

Peters Creek Grove is the third largest old growth grove in the Santa Cruz Mtn and likely the most remote. Portola Redwoods State Park is located in a deep canyon in the Santa Cruz mountains containing stands of coastal redwoods, live oak, and Douglas Fir (all of which we will experience on this hike) and two picturesque creeks: Pescadero and Peters. Critters that call the park home include black-tail deer, raccoons, gray squirrels, coyotes, and mountain lions while coho salmon & steelhead can be found in Pescadero Creek.

Summit Trail

Walking the Walk

We will take the Old Tree Trail to Slate Creek Trail to the Slate Creek Trail Camp. From here, we turn left on to the Bear Creek Trail which climbs and drops us into the Peters Creek Grove loop. We will proceed clockwise in the loop and have the meeting in the grove.
