Martins Creek Trail

The Place

This will be a new hike for Wild Recovery. This trail heads into the hills above West Dublin along the Martin Creek trail to a panoramic view of the Livermore Valley from the summit of Donlon Point. The hike begins under the canopy of Oak and Laurel trees following alongside Martins Creek. After crossing into the Calaveras Ridge Regional Park, the trail will emerge onto a grassy ridgetop that will lead us to the summit. This is an easier hike, accessible by hikers of all ability levels, and while the first half of the hike is shaded, the second part (including the meeting site) will be completely exposed so dress appropriately. The payoff will be a spectacular view from the summit, from Mt. Diablo to the north, to the broad Livermore Valley to the East and if its clear we will even catch a glimpse of the skyline of San Francisco to the Northwest.

Walking the Walk

Level: 2 - Miles: 5 - Elevation: 700'

The first mile of the hike begins under a canopy of trees and follows along Martins Creek. After a relatively level half mile we will cross through a gate into the Calavaras Ridge Open Soace preserve then begin climbing for a half mile or so eventually leveling out as we exit the canopy of trees onto a ridge top. Following this ridge leads us to Donlon point. After regrouping at the point, we'll backtrack along the ridge to a spot where we will have our meeting. We will return via the same route we came up.

Know Before You Go

There will be no protection from the elements on the second half of the hike so dress accordingly. Also the meeting will take place in an open grass area so it's a good idea to bring something to sit on like a tarp or blanket.

Hike start time promptly at 10am
