Mount Diablo State Park, Winter Retreat

February 16 @ 2:00 pm - February 18 @ 12:00 pm

$20

Host: Troy H.

Mt. Diablo State Park is an ecological and geological treasure. There are several plant species that are endemic to Mt Diablo. The mountain lies between converging earthquake faults and continues to grow slowly. The uplift and subsequent weathering and erosion have exposed ancient oceanic Jurassic and Cretaceous age rocks that now form the summit.

The Hikes

Friday: Rock City, Fossil Ridge and Sentinel Rock

Level: 2 Moderate – Miles: 4.5 – Elevation gain: 770’

Saturday: Camp to Summit Hike

Level: 4 Hard – Miles: 7.6 – Elevation gain: 2,100’

Know before you go

The observation deck atop the summit visitor center gives a 360° view of much of the bay area, the delta and the central valley. Mt Diablo’s 3,849’ summit can be blanketed in winter snow. This will add another level of fun for Saturday’s hike. Watch the forecasts and plan accordingly. We are camping in Buckeye group campground at approx. 1,750’ elevation. Contact Troy @ (925)-785-2238 or Venmo @WildRecoveryTreasurer to reserve a spot.

NOTE: Water may not be available in the park. Please bring plenty of water. Read more for additional information about the Retreat
