UPDATE: Wildcat Canyon cancelled. Alternative Hike: Cowell Purisima Coastal Trail

Fans & Friends of Wild Recovery, Saturday’s hike at Wildcat Canyon has been cancelled due to high fire danger. Phil W. the host and dedicated trusted servant has come up with an alternative hike on the coast. He hopes to see you there.

COWELL-PURISIMA COASTAL TRAIL

Level: 2.5 – Miles: 7 – Elevation gain: 625’

The Cowell-Purisima Trail is a segment of the California Coastal Trail. It offers spectacular views of the ocean and the gently sloping foothills of the San Mateo Coast. The trail runs between the edge of the high bluffs and the rich agricultural fields south of Half Moon Bay. This stretch of coastline is a protected Harbor Seal preserve and many seals can be seen basking on the flat rocks below. Brown pelicans glide by at eye level riding the updrafts off the cliffs. Our meeting will be on Cowell Ranch Beach. Parking is limited so carpooling is suggested.

Directions: Take I-280 north to Hwy 92 west. Turn Left on Hwy 1 and drive south for approx. 5 miles to the trailhead parking on the right. Note: Do not stop at Cowell Ranch Beach.
